The HEC Chinese Government Scholarship 2027 call for Pakistani students has not been announced as of 30 October 2026. HEC currently lists the 2026-27 Pakistan programme as inactive, so applicants should prepare for a possible next call but must not reuse the old 5 January 2026 deadline or previous quota as if they apply to 2027.

About the Chinese Government Scholarship
The bilateral Type A route is offered by the Government of China through the China Scholarship Council, with HEC acting as Pakistan’s nominating agency. The closed 2026-27 call advertised 75 places: 35 bachelor’s, 25 master’s and 15 PhD seats. Those numbers belong only to that cycle and do not establish the 2027 quota.
This general Pakistan route is different from applying directly to a Chinese university under a Type B or university-specific scholarship. HEC manages nomination under the bilateral Type A process, while applicants using another route are responsible for that route’s own requirements and correspondence.
Financial Benefits
HEC’s official programme information describes the Chinese Government Scholarship as covering:
- tuition and university administration costs;
- health insurance;
- free university accommodation or an accommodation subsidy; and
- a monthly stipend under Chinese Government Scholarship policy.
International travel is normally paid by the awardee, and HEC states that it has no financial liability for this foreign-funded scholarship. The 2027 call must confirm all benefits and rates before applicants make financial plans.
Programme Structure
The last official programme page listed degree routes with the following typical durations:
- Bachelor’s: four to five years, with one to two years of Chinese-language preparation where required;
- Master’s: two to three years, with language preparation where required; and
- PhD: three to four years, with language preparation where required.
English-taught and Chinese-taught options can be available at postgraduate level. Undergraduate applicants in the last cycle also needed the China Scholastic Competency Assessment (CSCA). The next call must confirm its test date and score rules.
Eligibility Requirements
The 2027 eligibility rules are not official yet. In the closed 2026-27 HEC call, applicants had to be Pakistani or AJ&K nationals without dual nationality, be in good health, hold the completed qualification by the closing date, meet the chosen university’s admission and language requirements, and not hold another scholarship at the same time.
The last-cycle age limits were under 25 for bachelor’s applicants with 12 years of education, under 35 for master’s applicants with a 16-year bachelor’s degree, and under 40 for PhD applicants with an MS/MPhil or equivalent. These cut-offs must be rechecked when the 2027 notice appears.
Required Documents
Applicants can prepare the following without claiming that the new portal is open:
- CNIC and valid passport;
- domicile and educational certificates or transcripts;
- IBCC or HEC equivalence where applicable;
- study plan or research proposal;
- language certificate required by the chosen university;
- two recommendation letters for master’s or PhD study;
- physical examination form and police clearance when requested;
- optional pre-admission letter for postgraduate study; and
- any valid HAT, USAT or CSCA score required in the new notice.
Documents not in English or Chinese may require notarised translations. Passport-validity dates and test windows are cycle-specific, so old checklists should not be copied blindly.
How to Apply
When HEC publishes a 2027 call, follow the new notice in this order:
- Open the HEC Learning Opportunities Abroad page and confirm that the Chinese Government Scholarship is listed as active.
- Complete the HEC profile and submit the Learning Opportunities Abroad application at the official HEC scholarship portal.
- Complete the separate CSC application at the official CSC instructions linked by HEC.
- Use the programme category and agency number printed in the new HEC call. The old Type A agency number was 5861, but applicants must recheck it.
- Submit both applications before the new deadlines and retain the generated forms for their records.
Under the last call, both HEC and CSC submissions were mandatory and hard copies were not required at the initial stage. Do not submit now unless the official 2027 call and portal option are live.
