About the CAS-ANSO Scholarship

The Alliance of National and International Science Organizations launched the degree programme to support international postgraduate study and research in China. The latest official call says the programme normally supports 100 to 200 master’s students and 300 PhD students a year. A separate ANSO-CAS-TWAS/UNESCO PhD subcategory can prioritise applicants from developing countries, women and climate-related research, but selection is competitive.

For Pakistani applicants, the important point is that search interest in “ANSO scholarship 2027” does not make a 2027 call official. ANSO’s current programme page and the UCAS financial-aid listing still show the 2026 call, while UCAS has not listed a 2027 degree scholarship call.

Financial Benefits

Funding for 2027 must wait for the new call. The closed 2026 programme covered tuition and related university charges, a monthly living allowance, health insurance, and specified travel or visa-related support according to the sponsor’s rules. USTC described its doctoral Level A fellowship, funded through CAS-ANSO, as including a tuition waiver, medical insurance and a stipend of up to RMB 7,000 per month.

These previous-cycle terms are preparation references only. Applicants should not budget on them until the 2027 call confirms the coverage, duration and payment rules.

Scholarship Structure

  • Master’s route: postgraduate study at USTC or UCAS/CAS institutes.
  • PhD route: doctoral training at USTC or UCAS/CAS institutes.
  • ANSO-CAS-TWAS/UNESCO route: a PhD subcategory with additional sponsor rules.
  • One-host rule in the last call: applicants could not apply through both USTC and UCAS for CAS-ANSO in the same cycle.

Academic admission and scholarship assessment are connected. Applicants need to identify a suitable programme and supervisor or research fit before submitting through the host university’s system.

Eligibility Requirements

The 2027 criteria are not official yet. Under the closed 2026 call, an applicant had to:

  • not hold Chinese citizenship;
  • meet the USTC or UCAS international-admission requirements;
  • be proficient in English or Chinese;
  • meet cycle-specific age limits;
  • not hold another assignment during the scholarship period; and
  • not already be pursuing the same degree level at a Chinese institution.

The 2026 age cut-offs were birth after 1 January 1996 for master’s applicants and after 1 January 1991 for PhD applicants. Do not reuse these dates for 2027 unless the new official call repeats them.

Required Documents

Prepare the core academic file early, then match it to the eventual 2027 host-university checklist:

  • valid passport;
  • degree certificates and transcripts;
  • research proposal or study plan;
  • academic CV;
  • proof of English or Chinese proficiency where required;
  • recommendation letters submitted by the stated referee deadline;
  • supervisor acceptance or contact evidence if the chosen programme requires it; and
  • medical or other supporting forms specified by USTC or UCAS.

Translations, notarisation and document format rules can change by host and cycle. Follow only the live portal instructions when the call opens.

How to Apply

  1. Check the official ANSO scholarship page for a dated 2027 degree call.
  2. Choose either USTC or UCAS and review the matching international master’s or PhD programme.
  3. Prepare the programme-specific admission documents and referee details.
  4. When the 2027 call is published, use the chosen university’s official admission system and select CAS-ANSO Scholarship if that option appears.
  5. Submit before the official applicant and referee deadlines shown in the new call.

Do not submit through agents or pay anyone who promises selection. The latest verified route was through the USTC or UCAS admission system, not a third-party scholarship form.
